Back in 2004, my father surprised me with my university degree with a brand new Jeep Liberty he was driving himself and my immediate family drop in. I was elated. Some years ago, I decided to get another new Jeep Liberty a 2007 …. then the economy collapsed. Whoops.
There was a time when buying an SUV could have mad more sense. Remember when you first hit the scene Hummers as a vehicle for every American, family punch? Then we saw the explosion of soccer moms once hitting the ground in these vehicles that looks more cut out for a desert excursion for a girl scouts meeting in the church. People are angry against those who had Hummers, accusing them of being selfish drivers who cut people off and made an arc of several parking spaces in the center parking lots. With hindsight, I'm pretty sure that these people were not monopolize the parking spaces on the end was just that they could not understand how to park the car!
Today, with people losing their jobs left and right and an economy that is almost set to fail under rising inflation, and the bankruptcy of major automakers such as General Motors and Chrysler, people are opting out of the vehicle purchase sport utility, and instead focus on driving more energy efficient, compact cars. If all else fails and they still have legs to walk on, they are breaking their best pair of walking shoes or running and hitting the pavement.
The worst thing I usually see when revolution was at its high SUV were all college guys with the big pickup trucks that had absolutely nothing in them. There were all these bright, good, such as pickup trucks new parked anywhere on campus with no indication to them that they are used for anything other than lie ahead rather in a parking space. "What a mess!" I remember thinking. When I think of used trucks, I think the work will be done on farms toting hay or feed near. I think bibs and hardened dirt on the sides. I do not think the fancy rims on the wheels and strategically placed decals.
When you buy a car, or perhaps when you bought a car in the past, what are you think? You think about how you'll look cool to all your friends, your family and / or peers? It seems that when most people buy vehicles SUVs, they do not believe in reasonable, practical arrangements. Why, if I based my next vehicle purchase on emotion or what whatsoever outside the realm of reason, I'd probably end up with a Passat or an Audi TT Quatro, who are both out of my price range right now. We must be more vigilant about our purchases. Unless you have a lot of people or things to carry around a lot, then you probably do not really need an SUV to help.
